Sunday afternoon --

The two teams are still negotiating.

Meanwhile, KEA members are beginning to prepare for a strike just in case. Zone coordinators are meeting at KEA this afternoon. Zone coordinators are in charge of  organizing a "cluster" of several schools in a geographically similar area. Their job is to help the picket captains get whatever they need. There are picket captains at every school. Their role is to make sure everyone knows how to picket, when to picket and to answer questions and communicate member needs.

Picket captains are meeting this evening at six and everyone is invited to stop by KEA to make signs at seven. The parking lot is where the sign making will occur, but there is ample parking everywhere else since it is Sunday.

Many people are confused about start times on Monday. Our Staff Excellence Rally begins 6:45 a.m. The District Welcome Back Assembly was posted for 8 a.m. Here is the original post:

Subject: Staff Welcome Back Event - Aug. 26 at 8 AM

All staff members are invited to attend the Welcome Back assembly from 8-9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26 at the Three Rivers Convention Center (map). Due to the construction of Kennewick High School, we have changed the venue this year. There will not be a breakfast. We look forward to seeing you and kicking off the new school year!

That email was sent Aug. 5.

When they "postponed" the event, principals began sending out messages telling KEA members at what time to "report" for school. We believe that as long as KEA members work their full 7.5 hours, they are fulfilling their professional day duties. If there are problems later, let us know and we will take appropriate action.
